Step back in time and experience Allegany State Park from a truly unique perspective. On Sundays and select holidays, volunteer tour guides from the Friends of Allegany State Park and the Allegany State Park Historical Society welcome park visitors at the base of the fire tower for guided access and interpretation. During the tour, visitors will learn about the history of the fire tower, the daily life of a fire lookout, and the important role these structures played in protecting Allegany State Park. Guests will also gain general knowledge about other historical and natural points of interest throughout the park. Participants will have the opportunity to hike to and climb the last standing fire tower in Allegany State Park - one of several that once operated - offering sweeping views of the park from an authentic historic vantage point. Access Information: Visitors must hike from the Summit Ski Hut parking lot, where a wooden gate marks the trailhead. When: 11:00am-1:00pm on Sundays and select holidays Tours are weather dependent and may be unavailable during inclement conditions.
